A4 is more expensive than previous gen A5 sportback

The A4 and A5 have been mainstays in the Audi’s line up throughout various generations and iterations, so it’s unlikely that they’d axe the A4 completely. After all, they both follow the classic Audi recipe. Make a semi lightweight sedan, put a simple peppy engine in the front, and make it luxurious enough for old men to buy. However, this doesn’t change the fact that the A4 currently has no competitive position in Audi’s current line up.

The first generation A4 started in 1994 with the first gen being the B5. On the other hand the first generation A5 started with the 8T generation in 2007. The current gen of the A4 is the sixth generation also known as the B9 which started in 2017. While the second gen A5 started with the F5 in 2016 and the current gen of the A5 is the B10 which started in 2024. If you track the German luxury brands and their respective manufacturing like Audi, Mercedes, and Porsche; you start to notice patterns. One of which being their complex, but very logical nomenclature system.

Getting back to the subject at hand. Even though the current Audi A4 has no competitive advantage in the current market. It still has a very special place in Audi’s history and it is unlikely that they would axe it off completely. Then again it is a 29 year old recipe with the current generation being 8 years old.
